Obama at Arizona State University
It has always been a tradition for colleges to honor the keynote speaker at a graduation commencement with an honorary degree as a way to recognize the significant contributions and accomplishments of the speaker, something that isn’t usually a problem when the speaker you’ve invited is the President of the United States.
But Obama isn’t your everyday President. When it came time for Arizona State University to make the decision about giving Obama his honorary degree, there was one small problem - HE HADN’T ACCOMPLISHED ANYTHING!!
Of course, we knew this about the “community organizer” (too bad ASU doesn’t offer a degree for that) when he was running for office. It was well known that he was the least experienced candidate to ever run for office and his on-the-job training has done nothing to improve the situation.

It’s a shame that the folks at Notre Dame don’t have the same level of integrity exhibited by ASU. As was also known during the elections, Obama is the most extreme anti-life person to ever run for, or hold, the office of President. His extreme position on abortion and other social issues have placed him squarely opposed to the beliefs of the Catholic Church, but that hasn’t stopped university president Rev. John I. Jenkins from inviting the chosen one to speak at their commencement.
Not only has he invited him to speak, but they are giving him an honorary degree. Even though this is being protested by Catholics around the country, along with some of the graduating seniors who are going to boycott the ceremony in protest, the politically correct president of Notre Dame is giving him an honorary degree as well.
It’s a sad day when a secular school holds a higher level of integrity than one of America’s oldest religious institutions. Shame on Notre Dame for surrendering it's principles by inviting Obama and giving him an honorary degree for a life that hasn’t achieved anything, and bravo to Arizona State University for sticking to theirs.
Arizona State University was right and Notre Dame is wrong.

No sir, you're wrong. President of the Harvard Law Review, State Senator, US Senator then President. But he's done nothing, yeah right! Oh, by the way, this world needs more community organizers. Too many of us have the "I got mine" mentality. You sir should try community organizing, maybe then you would have different respect for it.

plus, i think everyone's missed the elephant in the room: President Obama is the first African American president in the history of the United States. Please don't tell me that is not an accomplishment.
Furthermore, in the first 100 days of his presidency, President Obama has done more work to advance the interests of the vast majority of the American people than the previous president had done in 8 years. saving wild land, promoting international cooperation on climate change, advancing health care reform and reform within our approach to foreign policy.
President Obama has done nothing? Of course he hasn't, not a bloody thing. ASU and David Leach you should be ashamed of yourselves for your blatant racism.
And ASU? Well at least there is nothing lost in missing out on an honorary degree from that "university." What I cannot understand is why President Obama would have wasted his time speaking there in the first place.

Cle, I'm confused by your last statement. In an attempt to see what I might have missed, I re-read David's article, and couldn't find one single statement that had anything to do with racism. Are you saying that because David doesn't agree with the new president's politics, he's a racist? That's as absurd as me telling you that YOU are a racist for disagreeing with David. Or that YOU are a racist for simply disagreeing with me. Shame on YOU for labelling people who haven't said a doggone thing racist. I wouldn't vote for Obama even if he were a caucasan because of what he HAS DONE SO FAR IN HIS PRESIDENCY. There's been so many things that have come so fast and furious, there's no way I could name them all, but here are a few:
1. He's "saved wild land" alright. Here in Colorado, we have over a million acres of pine beetle killed trees. But thanks to Obama, nobody can step foot on the land to harvest the trees, or to save the few that are still alive. Within 5 years, EVERY TREE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STATE WILL BE DEAD. THAT'S A FACT.
2. He "slipped" into the stimulus package a law that says that with his new health care plan, the government reserves the right to pick and choose who will receive certain benefits. In otherwords, if your grandma or your baby are going to die anyway, they won't approve an operation that will allow them to live a few years longer.
3. Just yesterday, he sent notices to hundreds of Chevy dealerships that they are going out of business. I saw one of these dealers interviewed on TV today, whose dealership was in the family for 59 years, they were profitable, and yesterday it was taken away from him and given to a guy down the street because the government thinks they know how to run an auto business better than the average Joe.
4. Speaking of the stimulus, Due to the interest that piles up on these debts, and due to the trillions more Obama has announced he will need by the time this is over with, EVERY MAN, WOMAN AND CHILD in America today will have a $100,000 debt on their heads automatically.
5. You think only the rich are being taxed. Read your new Tax booklet. Where teenagers who only made up to a certain amount (I think it was $600) this year they have to pay taxes from day one. Also, as of Feb, this year, there are now 25% fewer millionaires in America due to the stock market crash. That puts that much more tax burden on the rich. Do you seriously believe that's going to work? What about the new taxes on soft drinks? Or gas? Or tobacco? EVERYONE IS ALREADY PAYING HIGHER TAXES.
Okay, I could go on and on about what Obama HAS done, but it's only making me angry. I have to go calm down now. LOL

ASU is right, Obama has not done a single thing that warrants an honorary degree from them. Will ASU please give us a person on ASU staff who can model for, all of us mere mortals, what to accomplish. I'm sure Mr. Obama will take notes and work hard to one day, maybe accomplish the same example from someone from ASU and do something that might just qualify him for the honorary degree.
For now, hmmm, my kid is about to enter college, since she has not accomplished nothing great in high school, aside from getting straight A grades since 7th grade, plays the piano, violin, speak two fluent languages, volunteers in the community, dances jazz, tap and hip hop, and tutors others. I guess she doesn't deserve or is qualified to to attend such a high achieving place like ASU. I guess i might have to settle for a lesser college locally, say UCLA or UC Berkely.
thank you for helping me realize that my kid should have really done more as a student to be able to enter ASU. I am grounding her for a month for not working hard enough in school and in the community.

This article lacks a valid point. All I can tell is that the writer hates the President. Saying that the President hasn't achieved anything is bold typed letters only reflects that he's hell bent on preaching hatred of our nations leader.

What's amazing is that anybody takes stock in these "honorary degrees" at all. They are as meaningless as this debate.
Obviously you jumped the gun on this and wrote your little article before hearing Obama speak at Notre Dame's commencement. Or perhaps you were so indignant at the prospect of the Anti-Christ speaking on hallowed ground that you abstained from listening to the speech.
