The San Francisco Giants made a run for the playoffs in 2009 only to be ousted by the Colorado Rockies the last two weeks of the season. Everyone involved knows the reason for the drop off at the end of the season was not due in part to the pitching. Former Grizzlies Matt Cain, Tim Lincecum and Jonathan Sanchez were three of the most reliable starters for the Giants the second half of the season. All the talk was about acquiring a "big bat" to solidify a below average lineup. Those changes were never made and resulted with a tough bullet to bite when the Dodgers and Rockies continued play into the postseason as the Giants planned out for the 2010 season. So the offseason is here and the changes are in the making.
Former Grizzlies hitting coach Hensley Muelens was promoted as the hitting coach for the upcoming season. He is replacing Carney Lansford who did not get much out of his fifth lowest run producing lineup. This change comes as no surprise after Muelens had been placed as an assistant coach for the Giants in September and the hitters loved his presence there.
Muelens was able to make an immediate impact with the young current anf former Grizzlies hitters. Former Grizzlies and current Giants Eugenio Velez, John Bowker, and Buster Posey. Look for the Giants offense to make an exceptional improvment with Muelens being there for the young hitters.
