When you have specific dietary needs or concerns due to desired good health, allergies or philosophical issues, finding equivalent recipes and desserts to fulfill your needs, and sustain your sweet tooth, can often be frustrating. Some may fill the bill in terms of staying within the guidelines of your diet, but what about food value? When there’s no inherent food value in a snack or recipe, you’re consuming wasted calories. Or they may be nutritious but taste like cardboard or school paste. Well, things are now looking up. One local product may serve as a healthy alternative to decadent counterparts; in fact it’s Heaven Sent. And it’s the frozen dessert for health conscious ice cream lovers.
When Corvallis, Oregon mom, Amber Humphrey, developed Heaven Sent, it wasn’t because her family had dietary restrictions. They don’t. As a mom, with a young son, she knew that kids love their treats. Not wanting to begrudge him foods similar to those enjoyed by his friends, she committed her time to some ingredient and product research. When she looked into the food values of traditional snacks and desserts, she was shocked at the artificial ingredients, high glycemic levels, fat and lack of wholesomeness.
Amber had fun “reinventing” better alternatives to cinnamon rolls, chocolate cake and even chocolate chip cookies. But ice cream was an obstacle. She began working on better alternatives, right in her own kitchen, batch after batch. Eventually, she found a natural and nutritious formula that would take the place of ice cream in her home and provide a healthy alternative to ice cream for the rest of us as well. What began, in 2007, as a healthy dessert for her family has grown into a unique food business.
According to Amber, Heaven Sent is more than just dairy and lactose free. It’s soy free, gluten free, cholesterol free, Kosher, low glycemic, vegan and contains no fats or hydrogenated oils. Oh, and it tastes good too.
If you love chocolate, try the Rich Chocolate flavor; it’s like eating a healthy frozen fudge treat. But if chocolate’s not your thing, try one of the other seven flavors. Whatever your diet needs or preferences, “your health need not pay the price for your indulgences any longer”.
Heaven Sent has recently found it’s way to the New Seasons Market freezer shelves in Portland. For more information about Amber and Heaven Sent, contact Campbell Consulting Group or check out the Heaven Sent website .
