Wednesday morning may seem like an odd time for a farmer's market (“Hey, I'm at work!”) but if you can make it to the Town & Country Shops you'll find a wonder-place of seafood, grass-fed beef and produce.
Pinnacle Farms brings a large and mouthwatering array of fruits and vegetables. The Rainier cherries, with their sunset colors, looked particularly delicious. Though not a local crop, cherries are a great source of vitamins and antioxidants. Fresh figs, another amazing fruit, were also available and had just been picked the evening before. “Beyond Fresh!” If you only know figs from the inside of a Newton cookie, go try fresh. Their earthy sweetness is really incomparable.
The variety of organic vegetables is equally incomparable. Several types of potatoes, including two different fingerlings gave shoppers a lot of inspiration, judging from the comments overheard. And not just the potatoes: the tomatoes inspired at least one shopper to homemade marinara sauce, especially as there are small bundles of herbs available as well. If you're looking for a midweek vegetarian meal for your family, and can make the morning market, you'll find anything and everything you need at Pinnacle Farms.
JH Grass Fed is one of the Valley's premiere providers of not only grass-fed beef, but also grass-fed lamb. Their website provides all the information you need to pre-order your cuts of meat, and also about their CSA.
Summer is not the season most conducive to cooking in Phoenix, but the Town & Country farmer's market has got you covered there as well. Raimondo's Gourmet Cuisine has a great selection of tasty Italian dishes and desserts to go. Or for a more Southwest meal, try The Tamale Store. Their list of tamales alone will make your mouth water.
Yes, Wednesday morning may be an unusual time for the average Phoenician to shop a farmer's market, but if you can make it to Town & Country, you really should!
