In one of the most outrageous moves in human history, the Islamic Republic of Iran has been appointed to a prominent role in the United Nations Women's Commission. The same Iran that oppresses and abuses women more than practically any other nation on Earth, save Saudi Arabia and other Muslim fundamentalist countries.
Just in the past couple of weeks, we have heard such vicious anti-woman vitriol out of Iran as to make the head spin, such as that unoppressed and unenslaved women are the cause of earthquakes and that healthy women who are exposing themselves to life-giving sunlight should be arrested. This is the same vile regime that hangs and stones women who have been raped and that says its perfectly fine for grown men to engage in child rape, so long as the enslaved girl is at least nine years old.
Based on this hideous act and many others, the United Nations should be disbanded and its headquarters thrown out of the U.S. The U.N. has become an utter joke, evidently now in the hands of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference or OIC, as demonstrated by another utter outrage in having so many human-rights abusing Muslim nations involved in its Human Rights Commission!
For those who are still convinced that there is no problem with the world becoming Islamized, these facts should serve as a wake-up call of the highest priority. In the meantime, the United States must take a stand against this assault of women worldwide by this misogynistic regime that treats its women as slaves and now is obviously poised to do likewise to as many other females globally as possible. Or, perhaps, the whole world will throw women under the bus simple because Iran contains the second-largest oil reserves on the planet?

I think I remember that I had learned from you, Acharya, the UN Human Right's Commission was not happy with the US because the US did not go along with some resolution that would have affected free speech (and religion). It was from that article you wrote that you felt the UN Commission for Human Right's was not much of a voice for Human Right's due to the members that had been assigned.
I think Brigitte Gabriel in this video has the right idea. This is something that maybe the Women of the World should rally around including the men.
The United Nations are an effing joke.
Woman in Iran have many rights. They represent majority of the University students. They are represented in Highest levels of Goverment and Parliment. They have the right to run for any political office. But the country is trying to live by Gods laws and principles. That is something this writer will never comprehend. When was the last time you read the bible?
Sorry, DS, but all three mystic religions from the Middle-East, if embraced in a "fundamentalist way", lead to violations of human rights, misogynistic attitudes and intellectual retardation. All "Islamic Nations" have miserably low IQ scores (below 93), and they shall remain this way until the "Millionaire Mullahs" are replaced by leaders who are not retarded by their religion.
I am sick and freakin tired of the feminists ignoring religion and its abuses towards women!! The religionist have hijacked the US, UN and everywhere else it is allowed to flurish! Its time for women to unite and destroy patriarchy and its religious products of hate!

Thank you. No, the women in Iran do not have "many" rights. They have a few, but they are terribly oppressed, and your comments are not only dishonest but insulting to Iranian women who know what real rights are and who are being abused horribly by this atrocious regime. Your defense of the Islamic Republic of Iran is inexcusable.
Moreover, your question about the Bible is not only a "tu quoque" logical fallacy, but it also reveals that you do not know me or my work at all. Hence, your derogatory remark about me "not understanding" something is simply an ignorant insult, since you do not know me in the least.
"the country is trying to live by Gods laws and principles." No, it is trying to live by the horrendous MANMADE laws allegedly coming from God - a claim made by many, many people and cultures over the past several thousand years. Haven't you read the Bible? Neither Islam nor sharia law represent "divine revelation." They are creations of MEN for MEN, largely devised in order to oppress and enslave women.
It's good to hear Ms. Murdock say in her article that the women of Iran receive less oppression & abuse in Iran than they receive in Saudia Arabia & other fundamentalist Muslim countries. Whether it was the pro-American government of the Shah prior to 1979, or, the Islamic Republic of Iran that was established after 1979, improvements are needed for Iranian women. My favorite of Murdock's solutions to this problem is when she says that the UN "should be disbanded & ...thrown out of the US." Lot's of other Americans involved in things other than women's rights would applaud her idea of expelling the UN from the USA. Whatever the future of the Iranian women may be, read what Joel C. Rosenberg, author of "Inside the Revelution," declares, from page 480 thru page 484, what may happen soon to many of the Middle Eastern people - women, I suppose, included. Rosenberg, the unbelieving? believer?, says, "...the only way to find peace with God...is through faith in Jesus Christ."
Wonder what the author is thinking. The USA will throw its mother under the bus for a buck. The US has regularly thrown women, children, the old, the young, under the bus & forwards and reverses for the joy of the squishing effect. No problem. So who's surprised or upset that the US continues to do what it does naturally? Please don't tell anyone of us that the US is a more humane society after mercilessly slaughtering, butchering, maiming bombing, torturing & kidnapping by the millions. Who sponsors the regime in Afghanistan now where the burqa is back? The society with the greatest amount of women's equity to be found in the middle east was systematically destroyed. In Iraq under Hussein, women were free to go without the headscarf. Now, under the reign of the USA, the headscarf is back. Iran (dis)qualifies as much as any other nation.

Thanks, Jon. Actually, I didn't say that Iran oppresses women any less than other parts of the Muslim world, only that it isn't necessarily more than those places.
"Iran (dis)qualifies as much as any other nation." That is so ridiculous and insulting that one hardly knows where to begin. Regardless of the politics you relate - with which I do not agree and which are not necessarily Constitutional - the fact will remain that women and most other citizens in the U.S. live more freely than in almost any place or time in history, based on the U.S. Constitution, which protects our individual human rights. Unconstitutional activity should be challenged, but please don't insult the intelligence by suggesting that Iran is just as good for women as anywhere else.

Durst I volley a verbal diatribe at the one who, in a moment, can cause me to splutter my words upon the mat on which we spar? Dare me? Shall I? Treasure my teeth, I do! So I won't swing; I'll merely sing A defensive line or two: Your upper right jab to my jowl is deserving, for, yes, you never did use the word, "say." But your placement of the word, "practically," between "more than" & "any other nation," does to this phrase what your upcoming word, "save" will do.
Here comes her left hook!
if u believe in the creation story.....women are evil ...sex is evil and the truth ? your nature is good ..sex is good ...and the true knowledge of good and evil is exactly the opposite ! couldn't be simpler ! the root of all evil ? RELIGION ! The instigator or pusher ? couldn't be simpler ...THE PRIEST ! Judgement ? Kill the priest and you kill the process while setting the example ! Don't want that ? The shit continues till you do !
