“What’s your Chazer?”
For high-schooler Ross Schatz, it was starting a clothing company when he found himself a snowboarder without a clothing sponsor. “I figured, who better to sponsor myself than me? I had no idea it would grow into what it is now.”
Schatz, now 24, unwittingly launched his career as a designer at that competition, and Chazer Clothing is on the rise. A “user-inspired brand”, Chazer Clothing (pronounced “chaser”) is an artistic street-wear line gaining momentum among the fifteen to twenty-three year-old demographic who are “looking to wear clothes with an explosion of color and intricate design,” explains its founder. “We’re the happy medium between hard-core skater/snowboarder and gangster-style.” Their mantra: “Everybody's’s chasing something in life – what’s your Chazer?”
A skilled graphic artist, Schatz has channeled his keen eye for color, humor and balance into
Chazer’s unique designs. Beyond raw talent and Chazer’s playful appeal, Schatz’s unassuming nature and freelance artist ambition are the lynch pins to his growing success. After creating his original designs in a pinch, the indefatigable teen knew he was on to something. “I made stencils and stickers and spray painted my logo everywhere. I sold stickers for fifty cents a-piece and used that money to print as many t-shirts as I could. I sold out in an hour at my high school.”
For the next few years Schatz outsourced his design to printers. Last year he bought his own press and began printing custom jobs out of his garage in Haworth, NJ, while sending larger orders out to presses. Endless cold calls to stores led the freelancer to
The Skate Penn at Penn State: The largest skate and snowboarding shop in State College, PA. They bought his entire inventory. With Vermont stores picking up the Chazer line for next year, the company is just getting started.

ross@chazerclothing.com for your custom print job of any size. Chazer prints tank tops, basketball jerseys, jackets, fitted hats, beanies, long sleeves shirts, hooded sweatshirts, and any number of outerwear products. While the label caters mostly to men,
Chazer is developing a women’s line for this spring.
Long sleeve tees and fitted hats run about $30. They ship, and all orders can be placed securely through Paypal.
And like most products, the company is only as strong as the artist behind it. To learn more about Ross Schatz and his artwork, or to commission a personal portrait, visit http://rossschatzart.wordpress.com
To Schatz, Chazer and his work as an artist are one and the same: “I’m a company for the people – ‘cuz I’m one of the people”. Let’s support our people.
