One of the best musicals ever made... High Society airs on Thanksgiving night (Thursday, November 29) at 10 p.m., as part of TCM’s tribute to the 80th birthday of Grace Kelly. The 1956 film is a remake of the sophisticated 1940 comedy classic, The Philadelphia Story. Music by Cole Porter. The cast includes — Kelly, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Celeste Holm, and Louis Armstrong. Kelly was a gifted actress, comfortable in both comedy and drama, who won a Grammy for the duet with Bing Crosby in True Love. The plot;"She’s a spoiled socialite about to marry a stuffy man (John Lund) when her tidy world takes a turn for the wild and crazy after three visitors arrive. One is her free-wheeling ex, Crosby, totally relaxed, playing that wonderful “Bing” character, full of bemusement and the clever alliteration, he used in most of his films. The second is a street-smart magazine writer (Sinatra) sent to cover the wedding. (Sinatra’s having a blast with der Bingle here as witnessed in their show-stopping drunken duet, Well, Did You Evah). Celeste Holm supplies the wry, Eve Arden-ish one-liner humor, to the proceedings as Sinatra’s photographer. And Satchmo, well, he’s just Satchmo jamming up a storm with Bing in Now You Has Jazz. Cool, sweet and on the beat." Here's Bing's and Frank's fun duet "Well, Did You Evah?"
