Lester Colodny, an Emmy Award-winning writer, producer and director is releasing a collection of his life stories on July 24th. The book is titled “A Funny Thing Happened, Life Behind the Scenes: Hollywood Hilarity and Manhattan Mayhem.” This is Colodny’s first book. Producer and director Susan Heller worked with Lester as he combed through his sixty-seven years of stories. Heller once wrote for actress Meryl Streep.
Colodny spent most of the 1960s working on such classic television series as “The Munsters,” “Get Smart,” “My Favorite Martian,” and “Beetle Bailey.” He directed Frank Sinatra in several commercials for Steve Wynn’s casino chain in the 1970s and worked with Mel Brooks when Brooks was just an office gopher, trying to work his way into the movie business. He was also a writer for “The Today Show” with original host Dave Garroway and Florence Henderson and co-wrote the play “Fun City” with Joan Rivers.
“I decided to write this book when, after all these years, I wanted the world to know what a joke God had played on me,” explained the author.
“A Funny Thing Happened” contains nearly forty photographs, including previously unreleased photos of The Beatles, and very rare images of Frank Sinatra and Dolly Parton.
Co-author Susan Heller described Lester as “The funniest man I have ever met.”
“I think that working with Frank Sinatra was the single most excruciatingly funny thing that ever happen to me,” said Lester. “I only hope that this book will cause lots of belly laughs for the reader.”
“A Funny Thing Happened” will be available at bookstores throughout New England and at select stores nationwide starting July 24th, as well as on Amazon.com and at: www.afunnythinghappenedthebook.com.
