Sniffapalooza members attended a presentation of the new fragrance from Thierry Mugler called Womanity at the company's New York City showroom. Womanity is the ultimate expression of the energy in women. This is a new fragrance which carries on Mugler's tradition of luxury innovation and olfactory artistry. Attendees received a dynamic seminar which went well beyond a traditional launch event.
Imagine just closing one's eyes and letting the other senses take helm. This is exactly what the participants experienced. Each person was given something sweet to eat along with a scented paper strip. The overall experience was to create a relaxed state of mind which opened the soul and the senses to the delicious sensations and the fragrant adventures.
The presentation room and surrounding hallways were darkened and the only sources of light were video, and small lights. The overall impression felt like night. In the hallway, individual displays of Mugler fragrances were set up with illumination. Participants were able to sample the fragrances from the company's history.
Womanity's scent is the creation of Mane, a fragrance house. Ralf Schwieger, a perfumer, explained to the group that this new product was not rushed, but created in a precise manner with Mane's proprietary new technology. The mission was to create a unique story utilizing the latest fragrance process called molecular extraction. This method was designed to capture essences which could not be attained through normal techniques. Attendees were given a live demonstration on how the technology is used the extract the essence of a fig. The fig was cut open and placed into a funnel like instrument and a neutral gas helped create an essence which would serve as the prototype for the accord.
Mugler's essential components in his fragrances are woody notes. Notes added to this new product include caviar, and Belona fig pulp. The idea for this scent was inspired by a group of islands in Greece called Cyclades.
The scent was broken down into components so that each could be smelled on a card by the participants. Then a blotter with the completed scent was given and the fragrance had a sweet and salty effect. The sweetness of the fruit combined with the saltiness of the caviar created a brilliant fusion unlike other fragrances I have experienced.
The packaging of the product represents something new as well. The box for the fragrance is plain on the exterior and active on the interior. The box opens up to a collage of pictures and words. The bottle itself is beautiful sculpture made like a totem for the woman who makes herself known. The bottle has a face, a key, a chain, and a ring.
Womanity will be available at Bloomingdales in the fall and the fragrance comes in 4 sizes in the store plus an online only mini size. The 2.7 oz bottle is the large size at $98.
