Coming Soon: Star Trek Perfumes by Genki Wear, Spring 2009

If you're a science fiction lover as I am (I grew up reading and watching Galaxy Express 999 - couldya blame me?), or if you've dated a Trekkie or two, you already know that Tiberius, the name of an upcoming new fragrance, is Captain James T. Kirk's middle name.  The celebrity perfume craze has reached a new plateau, going where no perfumista has gone before.  Perhaps the fact that Twilight perfume became an instant sensation (until the makers of Twilight perfume were quickly sued by Nina Ricci for copying their apple-motif bottle) had something to do with Star Trek's bold new move as well.  Trekmovie.com, the source for everything new in Trek, has announced the launching of three new fragrances in Spring 2009: two colognes for Men and one for Women.  These fragrances will be launched by Genki Wear.  Here are the notes, and I'm not sure if this was deliberate on their part but the lists don't include heart notes.

Tiberius for Men ("notes of freshness and sensuality.")
Top Notes: sweet citron zest, black pepper, cedar
Base Notes: warm vanilla, white musk, and sandalwood

Red Shirt for Men
Top notes of green mandarin, bergamot, lavender
Base notes: leather, grey musk

Pon Farr, the Women's fragrance, is described as "the most risqué titled" because it is a perfume designed to "drive him wild."  Named for a Vulcan mating ritual.  No notes are available at this time.

Now, I have a short rant regarding Pon Farr.  Do you think they could even fathom a Women's fragrance that had to do with substance and nobility of character, maybe one made after an actual significant female Star Trek character, or one named for a higher-minded concept than Vulcan males in uncontrollable, sometimes violence-inducing periods of heat that come every 7 years?  Was 'Scratch My Itch" already taken as a perfume name?  For me, it defeats the purpose of a series high on the idea of progressive humanistic morals, to reduce the essence of femininity to being a passive, faceless, nameless recipient of uncontrollable Vulcan male sexual urges.   Is it really that much fun to provoke us?  We'll see if the actual fragrance will be a Big Bang or a big yawn.

OMG I never thought I would see Star Trek perfume! I have to say that Tiberius is a great name!

I agree about the lame name for the women's version - how about Uhura? Now there is one strong AND attractive woman!

I'd wear Uhura, or "Kathryn" (Captain Janeway). The scents would have to be designed to break stereotypes, since they're representative of evolved humans of the future.

My boyfriend is going to love these.
I have to pick one up for him.
