Imagine feeling alone, scared, angry, abandoned, sad, and resentful because you have experienced being tossed around like a rag doll. This is how many of the children in foster care feel. We have discussed many problems of foster care and potential solutions. Recently, I found that the answer to many of the problems such as the one mentioned above is right here in our backyards. Permanency is what these children need and the Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition in St Louis Missouri provides just that. “The Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition is a non-profit agency that strives to create permanency in foster children’s lives by recruiting and retaining foster/adoptive families”, a mission that they so adequately achieve. The Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition serves as a child advocacy organization that offers many programs to foster children and foster families. One of the most impressive programs is Extreme Recruitment, which is intended to reunite children that have been in foster care for a while with biological family members or adoptive parents. By performing a search for a permanent home, they are able to find individuals that offer support in many ways such as financial and emotional assistance. There have been many success stories from the Extreme Recruitment program. We must spread the word about how positive, helpful, caring and supportive the Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition is. You can see and hear more about their great work on KSDK which is news channel 5 for St. Louis Missouri. Or visit their website, www.foster-adopt.org.
