Foster Parents: Did you know? The role of your Agency. part 3 of 3

In part two we were taking a look at the agencies obligation to you as a foster parent. We had mentioned that you should check on your State Statutes covering the obligation to you.

How? Just go to your states Government page, locate the codes or Statutes. Then in the search engine type in Foster Care Agencies, if you are having trouble finding the right page go to nfpcar.org. However, you need to remember to update the revisions of your state Statutes, your Legislators/Senators are busy beavers constantly making changes, revisions and/or revocations of your Statutes, then share what you discover with other foster parents. Have you completed that assignment?

Now on with our examination; we discovered that there are many obligations that no one has ever even mentioned to you.  The reason we recommend that you copy your State Statutes;, everyone should be aware of their own State Statutes governing Foster Care and Foster Parents anyway. It goes toward ollowing the rules, yours and theirs. How will you know you or your agency is/are not following statutes if you are not aware of what they are?

Question; do you have a copy of your Agencies manual,rules and regulations?  Most foster parents are not even aware that they are supposed to have a copy? Does that surprise you, or even a copy of their contract. We urge you to read our articles on Administrative Law, tell others about them, help edcucate you fellow foster parents.

                     You will also need to know what the contract you signed obligates you to.
