Chinese newspapers are telling their readers to forget about making any plans to be in and around Tian'anmen Square this weekend. Located in the heart of Beijing, the square will be off limits to visitors as the first rehearsal for the grand parade to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the People's Republic of China will be held from 3 am on Saturday to 2 am on Sunday.
This is no ordinary celebration as it involves almost a quarter of a million people and sixty floats. Security around the square is very tight, and to ensure the utmost secrecy about the event, (October 1, 2009) Tian'anmen Square and its adjacent roads will be off limits to the public.
If this is anything like the Olympics opening ceremony......
