The Coquitlam Minor Football Association will be paying tribute to the late Kevin Chin by renaming Mackin Field South at Mackin Park in Coquitlam to the Kevin Chin Field in a ceremony on Monday, September 6.

The Field Dedication Ceremony will take place at 4:30pm with the Ceremonial Kick Off slated for 5:00pm. Those who with to attend the ceremony are asked to RSVP by Thursday, September 2 to bmclennon@coquitlam.ca or by calling 604-927-6976.

Chin was involved in minor football for over 28 years in various capacities, most notable as a volunteer. In addition to his playing days as a member of the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, Chin served as head coach of the Junior and Senior teams at Centennial High School where he was a teacher. For 18 years, he also coached at the Western Canadian All-Star Football Camp where his players made famous the slogan: "Win With Chin." He was also heavily involved with the Coquitlam Minor Football Association where his two sons played in.

Chin passed away in 2007 from cardiac arrest at the age of 51. In addition to the renaming of Mackin Field South on Monday, Chin is also memorialized through the Kevin Chin Memorial Scholarship - awarded annually to a BC High School Football player for outstanding academic achievement.

Chin is survived by his wife, Sylvie, and his sons, Casey and Jordan.

Casey Chin was a member of the British Columbia provincial under-18 team that recently won a bronze medal at the 2010 Football Canada Cup in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
