Significant news about Sigg: BPA-free only after 2008

Better than plastic bottles, but still not good enough.  Did Sigg do too little
too late with so many other options on the market?

They're much more eco-friendly than bottled water, they're cute, they come in all sizes and they're sturdy.  What's not to love about our Sigg bottles?

Well, it turns out the lining.  When Sigg got very quiet about what the lining of their bottles was made of, there was some doubt in my mind and that of many others whether there was something they knew or didn't know that we should.

Sigg has a letter from the CEO on their website explaining their thinking and actions.

BPA is in fact in the lining of the old Sigg bottles.  If you are concerned about your bottles, please check this link to see which bottles you have.  The new lining as of 2008, is BPA-free.

To see which liner you have, the copper-like lining is the old lining and a paler yellow lining is the newer BPA-free lining, please look at the photos on their site.

If you prefer to use bottles without any lining, then you can look for food quality stainless steel bottles such as Kleen Kanteen, Thermos' Foogo, Thinksport, or Kids Konserve.

Having spent hours looking for an alternative to plastic bottles to hold my drinking water when I was recently visiting the USA from England, I found this information very helpful. I was almost tempted by a Sigg but opted for a lining that was stated as stainless steel. Too many choices, not enough REAL CLEAR HONEST information. Keep it up.

Thanks for the list of SIGG alternatives, Leah. The Kids Konserve seems particularly appealing.

Yes, the Kids Konserve lunch box items are great. You can get them locally at Greenward and I believe Cambridge Naturals in Porter Square (among other shops I am sure).
