2009 Seattle Cheese Festival

The Seattle Cheese Festival, returning for its fifth year, May 16-17th 2009, is an annual artisanal cheese festival for the general public and the foodservice industry to taste, celebrate and better understand artisanal cheese made locally and around the world.

As artisanal cheese production grows, so does the festival! Taste more than 200 cheeses from local and international producers along the cobblestone street of Pike Place Market. The Seattle Cheese Festival is the first of its kind on the West Coast with artisanal cheese at center stage. Taking place at Seattle's famous farmers market, the event will be held along the cobbled street between Pine and Virginia.

Event activities

  • Two days of cheese sampling from local and international artisanal cheese producers
  • Informative seminars and panel discussions on serving, suggesting and pairing artisanal cheese (by advance registration)
  • Wine Garden is held from noon to 5pm on May 16 and 17
  • Activities for children will make their cheese experience enjoyable for the whole family
  • Seattle restaurants offering a "Cheese Fest Best" cheese dish during Festival week

Event highlights

Grilled Cheese Recipe Contest
The Seattle Cheese Festival is conducting a recipe search for the best grilled cheese sandwich recipe. The winner of the contest will appear during the Seattle Cheese Festival, which takes place May 16-17, 2009, to give a live demo on the chef’s stage. The winning sandwich will also be featured on the menu at DeLaurenti’s café during the festival. The deadline to enter is May 1, 2009.

Fresh Mozzarella Making Demonstration
DeLaurenti Food & Wine is famous for its fresh mozzarella, which is made in-house by the talented DeLaurenti staff. Watch DeLaurenti demonstrate how easy fresh mozzarella is to make at the Mozzarella Making tent. They are even throwing in a burrata demonstration. What is burrata? Burrata is fresh mozzarella with cream added in the center. It’s very difficult to make, but it’s soooo worth it – rich and silky. It’s the non-plus ultra of fresh mozzarella.

Chef Demos
On Saturday and Sunday you can enjoy cooking demonstrations by some of the city’s best chefs and see how the pros are inspired to create great dishes with cheese.

Wine Garden
After perusing and sampling the cheesemakers' offerings, what better repast than a glass of wine? Join us in the Wine Garden! Select from a range of wines specifically selected to pair well with the artisanal cheeses offered at the festival. Winemakers and representatives will be in the wine garden to answer your questions about the wines.
