How to freeze bread

How to freeze bread

If you have a large family and you buy a lot of bread, you can save money by stocking up on bread when it's on sale then freezing it.

If you follow the steps below, you can freeze the loaf of bread in a way where the slices won't stick! Then you don't have to defrost the whole loaf all at once.

By freezing bread slices individually, you can just grab the slices you need. You will never have stale bread again!

TAKE THE BREAD OUT OF THE BAG -- Take all the slices of bread out of the bag a few at a time. You can lay them on a cookie sheet or a piece of wax paper. Just be careful not to tear your slices.

GET COFFEE FILTERS OR BAGGIES -- You will need something to put between the slices so they won't stick together when you put the bread back in the bag. Coffee filters or cheap sandwich bags work great. You don't need the zipper bags. Save money and buy the sandwich bags that fold over.

PUT THE BREAD BACK IN THE BAG -- Start putting your bread back in the bag. If you want to freeze each slice individually then put a coffee filter between each slice. If you want to freeze two slices at a time, you can either place a coffee filter between every other slice or you can put two slices in a baggie then put all the baggies of two slices back in the original bread bag. The nice thing about putting slices in baggies is that when you take them out to thaw they will not dry out because they are in their own bag. Also, if you are going to make a sandwich for lunch you have your baggie right there!

FREEZE THE LOAF -- After you have bagged all your slices separated by coffee filters or baggies, simply tie the bread bag with the tie that it came with and put it in the freezer. Want to keep your loaf from getting squished? Put the loaf in an empty Saltines cracker box! No more crushed bread!
