There has certainly been some buzz in the news lately about Chef Kelly English of Restaurant Iris. Last year he was named one of 10 "Best New Chefs" by Food & Wine magazine. Recently he was nominated by the James Beard Foundation as a semifinalist for best chef in the Southeast.
This week he makes his television debut on the Food Network's "The Best Thing I Ever Ate," cohosting with native Memphian Claire Robinson. He will feature his unique version of surf 'n turf, a New York strip stuffed with fried oysters and blue cheese. It is served over a saute of Yukon potatoes, Allen Benton's bacon and thyme, and topped with bordelaise, hollandaise, and fried sage. It is not surprising that this decadent dish will be a part of the "Guilty Pleasures" segment of the show.
Make sure to tune in to the Food Network on Friday, March 5 at 9 PM CST to support our local chef superstar!
