Top 10 hangover cures

For those who may wake up to start the day with a post-party trauma (better known as a hangover) I offer these suggested cures:

 1.    Drink lots of water, but avoid coffee (unless it is very weak) as the caffeine will continue to dehydrate your system.

 2.    Sleep is probably the best thing for you and your tired liver.  Lowering the shades so the room stays dark may help you stay asleep longer.

 3.    A wet washcloth on your forehead can offer some relief.  Take a clean washcloth, moisten it with cool fresh water and wring out.  When in a reclining position, place the folded washcloth on forehead and close eyes.  And try to relax. Should the wash cloth become warm, try refolding it for a cooler section.

 4.   Eat some toast  - with out any jelly or butter, just plain.  It supposedly soaks up some of the nasties still in your tummy.

 5.   Have a glass of orange juice, the liquid helps with dehydration and vitamin C is long believed to help a hangover.

 6.   Go for the Gatorade or any other sports thirst quencher.

 7.   Take a shower, alternating hot water with cold.

 8.   Take a few sips of Coke, not the diet kind, but the real Coke, the can that has 39 grams of sugar in it.  Some people like it warm, others flat and still others on ice,  but the real secret here is to sip it, slowly.

 9.    If Coke is not your thing, try flat ginger ale.  Warm or over ice, again, the secret here is to sip slowly.

10.  Once you start to feel better and can actually navigate, take a hot bath.  It is believed the hot water helps you sweat out any remaining toxins.  Once you have soaked, scrubbed, and rinsed, lathered and repeated, put on clean clothes and make a bowl of soup.  And vow to never let this happen again.
