Pete Donnelly, of Key Colony Beach FL and Spring Lake NJ, hosted a group of friends visiting from the Jersey Shore for a day of fishing with SeaSquared Charters.
The original intent was to go to the far Gulf in search of cobia. However, due to the 30-40 knot winds, the course was changed and the group went for a half day of shark fishing instead.
The waters were alive with sharks. There were so many that, on more than on occassion, they were hooked up to one when the bait slid up the line and skimmed across the surface only to be snatched by another shark. The result was a loss of both fish.
In all the group caught ten lemon sharks, ranging from five to seven feet in length. All were released unharmed. Along on the trip with Pete were his son-in-law Mike Nitto, Mike's dad and brother, both named Ron, and family friend Art Acquaviva.
