Now its up to the public to decide who stays on the Biggest Loser. Last night Daris and Koli gave pleads to stay on, who will get voted back?
Daris crushed former Biggest Loser Tara's 4:55 26.2 mile marathon record, with an amazing time of 4:02!
It was all about going home for 30 days and getting ready for this 26.2 mile run. Each contestant battled the challenges on the home front.
Koli could not take the pressure, and left right away to go to Las Vegas to train in a boxing style workout with a personal trainer. Ashley and Michael bonded together to train and run, while Daris hit the country roads on his own.
Curtis Stone made his visit to Daris to show him how to make some healthy meals and shop. He went to his home town favorite restaurant and created a few dishes in Daris name. The spicy black bean soup with cilantro and the green bean salad seemed to be a hit, and easy to make. Both great for protein and vegetarians.
Each contestant who finished the marathon got $10,000 for the charity of choice and all 4 got the checks!
It was a slow pace but constant for Michael and Ashley but that pace paid off with a finish time of 6:26. Ashley said "We are the two biggest contests ever on the show, we started together AND we will finish together" and they did.
Koli pushed through the hills keeping himself motivated and strong, focusing on finishing. He did just that, with a time of 6:08.
Daris the runner of the contestants broke the record with a time of 4:02 and to everyones surprise had a shocking 2 lb gain! Although his only goal was to beat the record saying "I only want to beat the record, and then no one can take that away from me".
Daris went from 195 lb to his current 197 lb stating his gain was due to training for the marathon when really it was revealed he is an emotional late night eater.
Koli weighed in at 231 lb losing 13 lbs and 5.63% loss landing him in the bottom with his new weight of 218 lbs.
Michael broke the 300 lb mark, starting weight at 322 lbs and currently at 299 lbs losing 23 lbs and 7.14% loss kissed the weight sign saying "I have not seen a number below 300 since I was a child" sealing his spot in the finals.
Ashley also sealed her spot in the finals starting weight of 231 lb losing 18 lbs 7.79% currently at 213 lbs saying "I am the girl I wanted to be". Daris told her in closing "Be confident and proud, stay that way you really inspired me".
Bob made the comment to Daris "Its make or break time, we all fall down, key is to dust yourself off and pick yourself up".
Lets see who has won the vote to be in the finale as Daris and Koli plead to touch our hearts, in next week LIVE Biggest Loser grand finale.
Tips on Marathon training or running and St. Louis Local Marathons

Daris, killed the marathon. So Awesome! For those voting don't worry about the weight gain. This is very common for three reasons. 1) When you run over 4 miles per hour you switch from fat burring to carb burring. This is why Michael and Ashley lost more weight. 2) Muscle is heavier than fat. 3) You can retain water that causes weight gain after a marathon.
Unfortunately they did not mention any of this, so you did very well at the marathon, but it hurt you in the competition.
JB Benna,
Thank you for that insight and great comment!
Also did you catch that Bob made the comment "you run to lose weight" he could have said what you said since Daris has much more muscle at this point in the game.
I was disappointed in Bob's comment regarding Daris' weight gain. As Teresa and JB mentioned, it is actually quite common to gain weight when training for a marathon. It's called "train gain." I believe most of us who run and train for races understand this. Daris has already achieved a healthy weight range. Since performing well in the race was important to him, he needed to fuel his training, not cut calories. And by the way, you don't just "run to lose weight". Daris has discovered the deeper element in running, the spiritual element...the part of reaching deeper within yourself to continually discover new realms of your capabilities. In my mind, Daris has already won in that regard.
Jacqueline and JB -- I can appreciate your point about the training weight gain, but we did see Daris night eating for emotional reasons, so in that aspect, he has a ways to go. BTW, I really liked Daris; I hope he wins the audience vote. He needs to build more confidence, and winning the vote may help him. He also needs to develop more healthy coping mechanisms. Running is one great one, yet it seems he needs more.

Page, I agree Daris' late night bingeing highlighted his need for better coping mechanisms, but I couldn't help but wonder if these ravenous episodes weren't due in part to not replacing glycogen stores immediately after training runs. Daris is being trained to eat in a healthy manner in order to lose weight, I don't think he has been educated by Bob an Jillian in training nutrition. I understand this is not the point of the show, but Daris is a natural runner, and the fact that he is a faithful runner means his diet education needs to differ from the others.

JB, I am a big fan of yours but I think you need to read a little more before making physiological comments. We are always burning carbs and fats, you don't just switch to one or the other. Certainly at lower intesities you burn a higher percentage of fat overall but you are also burning less calories at a lower intensity. It is different for everyone and 4mph is not the breaking point. 4mph is not even a run. I can walk at 4mph.
What is heavier a pound of muscle or a pound of fat? They are both a pound! Muscle is denser than fat.
Finally, if you drink enough during your marathon you should not retain water when drinking after the marathon. If you are retaining water then you were probably dehydrated during the activity and in that case probably lost quite a few pounds of water weight during the marathon as well.
Sooo inspiring!! I just love how formerly inactive, morbidly obese people challenge themselves and in the end, become even fitter than the rest of us! It just shows how we are all capable of so much more than we think we are. Amazing story...
