Updated Nike+ SportBand
Nike has some updates for runners. The new Nike+ SportBand has a new, easier to read screen and improved water resistance and will be available in the US on July 15, 2009 for $59 USD. It provides real-time performance feedback on distance, pace, time and calories burned.
If you don't already know what the Nike+ is, it's a small footpod that you insert into a specially designed Nike shoe. It sends data wirelessly to either an iPod enabled device (iPod, iTouch, iPhone) or to the Nike+ SportBand that you wear on your wrist. It saves your run data locally then uploads it to the Nike+ website when you sync the iPod or SportBand device.
The Nike Running website is now merged with the Nike+ website and has added some new features like social networking, personalization, and enhanced goals and challenges to help runners become, well, better runners. You can keep track of your running history and use the Map It feature to create routes you've run or to search for new routes by location.
If you don't want to get a pair of Nike running shoe especially designed for the footpod, you can make or buy an attachment for the outside of your shoe for the footpod and still use the iPod app or Nike+ SportBand. For some ideas, check out the Nike+iPod Shoe Hack and Sensor Accessory Round-Up.
Nike+ SportBands come in grey and pink, anthracite and yellow, and black and red.
