Avon Walk San Francisco 2009 wrap up: $6 million raised, more than 2700 walk

Sunday, July 12 - Months of training for thousands of participants is wrapping up in the 2009 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, San Francisco.

More than 2700 walkers raised more than $6 million in this seventh annual Northern California event.

Shortly, guest speaker Suze Orman will take center stage at an emotional Closing Ceremony and announce the new recipients of grants in the Bay Area (grantees of more than $29 million through 2008 list is here).

Over the course of the weekend, participants walked their choice of a marathon (26.2 miles) or a marathon and a half (39.3 miles) with the final 13.1 miles completed on Sunday.

Congratulations to the men and women who walked, volunteered, cheered and provided aid and comfort to the participants.
