It's the middle of winter and very easy to hide a little belly bulge in a big comfy sweater. However, spring is just around the corner with its warm weather, which of course, will make you want to bare a bit more skin. Many people, in their feverish attempt to drop a few pounds around the middle, will take up a daily ab routine. This might consist of crunches, sit-ups, and maybe even some core exercises. While this routine might seem like a good idea, there are a couple of common mistakes that can be avoided.
- Your stomach muscles are just like every other muscle in your body. They need time to recover, which means working them out every day is not effective.
- You can't spot train. If you carry weight in your mid-section, doing hundreds of crunches won't suddenly make it slimmer. A deficit of calories (burning more or eating less) is what will result in the pounds coming off. However, when the lbs. do melt away, you'll have fantastic muscles underneath thanks to all those crunches!
By keeping these tips in mind, you'll be more effective in your battle against the bulge. Remember - a great way to beat the winter blahs is to exercise, so boost your energy and get a head start on your beach body!
