There are several ways to keep your fitness classes and training from breaking the bank.  Here are a few of my favorites:

1) Fitness DVD's - Check out  fitness DVDs at your local library.  It is amazing that more people do not take advantage of this community freebie.  Asking my local librarian, she was surprised too! And if you love the DVD, you can find discounted and previously viewed ones on-line for less than the retail prices in stores.  Even still-- a fitness DVD collection can be shared and traded among friends so even when you opt to make that less than $20 investment, you can still get a good bang for your buck!
Check out my DVD's Pt-2-Go and Pain Free Series- mention EXAMINER in the order for an extra DVD of the one you purchased for a friend.

2) Internet deal finders - By signing up for sites like: Group On and Yipit offer daily discounts on various fitness programs.  Below are just some of the deals I have seen from these sites and a great value.

  • $45 Pole-Dance and Lap-Dance Classes at Sheila Kelley S Factor
  • $48 for $120 Worth of Yoga and Spa Services at Infuse Yoga Spa
  • $35 for a One-Hour Private Pilates Session at Pilates Plus Studi

3) Passport to Prana - For only $30, the Passport to Prana program allows anyone to get back to nature and enjoy yoga as it was originally intended. The card allows participants to experience a class at each of the 35 participating studios throughout major cities.

4) Reward your exercise with Prizes - S2H Replay watch - For less than $20, the S2H replay watch is a perfect fitness buddy.  Now here's the savings model-- the more you exercise, you more points you build to receive gift certificates to your favorite retailers like Best Buy, Barnes and Nobel, Staples, Gameworks, and more.  So even though the out of pocket expense is an initial purchase, the real value is in the rewards. Enter "metcalf" in the promo code to receive 20% off your purchase as an exclusive for Examiner readers.

5) Free weekend workouts in Chicago Millennium Park offers free workouts on the lawn every Saturday until September 11th.  August line up includes:

August 7, 14, 21

  • 7 AM Stirling Tai Chi Society
  • 8 AM Lani Granum
  • 9 AM Pilates Chicago
  • 10 AM Zumba with Diane and Regina with Music by Michael Zerang and Friends

August 28; September 4, 11

  • 7 AM Stirling Tai Chi Society
  • 8 AM Lani Granum
  • 9 AM Soulistic Studio
  • 10AM Cheerobics! with the Power of Cheer with Music by Carlo Basile with Satya

6) Watch TV - That's right you can get fit for free on television. Check out Exercise TV and NBC local Chicago stations for tips and free exercise videos.  There's also YouTube.com with unlimited videos of how to get fit that you can watch or download for free.  Check out Scott Herman Fitness, Sidney Austin Fitness or videos from mbc Fitness
