On Rachael Ray's show they spoke of a new diet called the 400 calorie fix. It makes the claim of losing up to 11 pounds in 2 weeks by eating 3-4 400 calorie meals per day.
I hate to be the one to rain on everybody's parade (actually no I don't), but the idea of losing weight while eating 1200-1600 calories per day isn't exactly a startling revelation. It's also not the ideal way. Very few people can have the discipline required to maintain such a low calorie diet, as well, once they lose that discipline they will gain back the weight.
As a pro fighter I compete in a weight regulated sport. I have lost ten pounds in a day. Typically in a 2 week period I will lose between 15-20lbs. Within 2 days of the competition my weight is right back where I started. Maintaining a healthy weight can not be done through a "fad" diet. Proper nutrition, exercise and lifestyle are the keys.
Proper nutrition means healthy whole food. The less processed and packaged the better. Will you lose weight eating 1200-1400 calories of chocolate bars? Yes. Will you lose the same amount of weight eating 1200-1400 calories of broccoli? Yes. Will it have the same impact on your health? Not a chance.
Take fad diets with a grain of salt. No pun intended. Weight loss is a simple formula, calories in vs calories out. That's it. On my website www.exhalewellness.com we have simple to use fill in the blank formulas that allow you to see exactly how many calories you should be eating. Solid information that anyone can use. In fact if you become a free member you will get a series titled 5 things you can do right now to improve your health. As a quick note the series is just finishing today and will be on the site within a day or two.
