Lindsey Vonn during a slalom race in Aspen in November 2006. wikipedia
Slalom skiing is the sport that skiers do in a zig zag motion because they are trying to stay away from obstacles (poles) put in their way. This sport involves physical stamina and determination. It requires coordination, excellent timing, and flexibility as well as a healthy diet.
Our own Lindsey Vonn, 25, came in 2nd place in the Women's World Cup slalom today, November 14, 2009. Her time was just .08 seconds behind winner Maria Riesch, 24, of Germany. As a member of the US Ski Team, Lindsey has 19 World Cup wins in her career, which is more than other American woman. She is coached by her husband, former Olympian Thomas Vonn. Lindsey plans to compete in five events at February's 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
Maria is the defending world slalom champion. Her time for a two-run mile was 1 minute, 48.71 seconds on the Black Course at the World Cup circuit's northernmost venue above the Arctic Circle.
In third place was Anja Poutiainen from Finland. She was 1.16 behind in third place and kept the overall World Cup lead.
