Two tennis greats Agassi and Graf feel joy every day

After Barbra Streisand and Brook Shield didn't work out Andre Kirk Agassi, 38,  found Stefanie Marie Graf, 39. They were married in Las Vegas in 2001 and are two of the greats in the world of tennis.

Stef is a former World Number 1 ranked female player. Both Billie Jean King and Martina Navratilova have her on their list of greats.

Graf won 22 Grand Slam singles titles, second among male and female players. Graf is the only player to have won all four Grand Slam singles tournaments (Wimbledon, U.S.Open, French Open and the Australian Open) and in that same year, 1988, she won the Olympic gold medal in singles becoming the first and only player to win what is called the Golden Slam.

Agassi is a former  World Number 1 tennis player who wond eight Grand Slam singles tournaments and an Olympic Gold Medal in singles. These two sure do match up! He is one of only five male players to have won all four Grand Slam singles titles.

Agassi retired in 2006 because of back problems. Graf retired in 2000 also because of health problems.

Graf and Agassi seem to be happily married and have two children, son Jaden Gil born in 2001 and daughter Jaz Ellie born in 2003. Agassi centers his life around family. “In order to discover your children, you have to sort of come to terms with yourself,” he says. “When you start looking at life through the lens of a 3-year-old, it’s like your whole filter changes. Everything you look at is like a painting that’s been restored. Everything is alive again, because you just don’t take it for granted.”

Graf provides the balance Agassi feared he’d never find. “She is a lady of a few words, and her actions speak volumes, and her values are reflected every day in how she lives,” he says. “I try to learn from her. I pour myself into something, and I get crazy with it, and then I get burned out, and I sort of have to regroup. She stays the course in a way that allows me to jump around in a big safety net.

“What has transcended everything has been the common ground we share and our basic approach toward life. It’s better to be lucky than good sometimes. I don’t feel like I have any answer to how to have successful relationships, but I do feel overwhelmed with the joy that I feel every day.” quotes from  Parade Magazine
