Nutrition 101: What is the Fresh Diet?


The Fresh Diet delivery meal plan is amazing! (FreshDiet)

The Fresh Diet is a weight loss or weight management meal delivery service that uses the Zone diet.  Sherri Shephard, Jennifer Aniston and Sandra Bullock are celebrities who use The Fresh Diet. 

Every night, an insulated bag is delivered right to your door with three meals and two snacks for the next day.  The meals are never frozen or dehydrated like other meal delivery diet programs.  All you need to do is reheat the meal with your choice of appliance (microwave, toaster, skillet) and viola!  Sherri Shephard uses the Fresh Diet and recently revealed her bikini body on The View!

The Zone Diet uses a 40/30/30 method for dining. Forty percent carbohydrates, 30 percent protein, and 30 percent carbs, using only the fresh ingredients and organic/natural most of the time.   The Fresh Diet also give you access to a diet consultant and ZonePerfect Nutritionist.

I was fortunate enough to win a free week of The Fresh Diet on Twitter.  First, I went onto the Fresh Diet website to enter my address.  I didn't realize that they even delivered to Boston but the Fresh Diet delivers fresh meals daily to 19 different areas including in NY, NJ, CT, MA, PA, FL, CA & IL!  

Next, you enter your weight, height, age, level of physical activity and weight loss goals.  You also have the option to tell them of any medical condition here like diabetes, high blood pressure or cholesterol, pregnant or allergies.  This helps them calculate a daily calorie range that will best suit your goals and needs.  Then you are allowed to choose food items you dislike.  This list is long!  Foods many have never heard of are even listed on here.  After wards you have the option to choose your meals. 

As a premium member, I was given 4 options for breakfast and lunch, 4 options for a dinner protein, 6 options to choose 2 sides, and 2 snacks from about 6 options ranging from desserts to crab stuffed portabello mushroom caps. 

For breakfast, you can choose from meals like cheesy zucchini crust-less quiche with pineapple, goat cheese and sun dried tomato omlettes, and mango stuffed french toast with coconut ricotta cheese. 

For lunch there are 4 options, a vegetarian dish, a beef dish, a chicken dish and a fish option.  If you choose a meal that includes an item you makes as a dislike, a pop up window will show up to let you know and ask for confirmation to keep this item in your bag.  Usually there is a sandwich option, a salad, a wrap and some hot meal.  An example is Asian Style Chicken Salad with Baby Bok Choy, Watercress, Alfalfa Sprouts, Water Chestnuts & Sesame Soy Dressing.

Similar to lunch, for dinner you are given 4 different meat options which usually have a similar sauce.  There are also 6 sides that you can choose 2 from. If you choose too many starches, a pop up window will let you know and you have the option to choose another or keep your selection.   An example would be Fillet of Wild Orange Roughy with Pineapple Mango Chutney with Honey Glazed Beets and Roasted Fennel.  YUM!

For snacks, there are 6 options to satisfy any cravings, sweet, salty, carb, protein, whatever!  Again if you choose to many carbs, a pop up window will let you know and give you the option to make a new choice. 

The first night a man came to my door to deliver my food in an insulated bad with all my meals and two ice packs.  It was so easy.  Every night before you go to bed, just put the bag back outside your door and a new delivery will be there. 

Going away for the weekend?  No worries, just deselect those days from your calender and it will be added on to the end of your service.  This allowed me extend a 7 day pass for 2 weeks :)

I love this program.  The only draw back is the price.  If you have the money and you want to lose weight, I highly highly recommend this meal plan.  I lost 3 pounds the first week!  Some was water weight but after seeing a personal trainer and having my body fat taken, I will lose 5 lbs of body fat in 3 weeks if I follow the program. 

I was skeptical if I would feel full but for the first time, I have no cravings or yearn for night time snacks.  If you purchase the program for a month, it comes out to about $35 a day (chefs choice) which is fairly expensive.  However, the money that I have saved on groceries thus far is amazing.  We don't realize the money we spend on snacks here and there.  But when you're on the program you know you have all the calories you need and you are not hungry.  Let me know if you have tried to program and what you think of it.
