Maintain fitness levels while on vacation

Most people gain weight while on vacation. When working hard every week to maintain successful weight loss and stay healthy, going on vacation should not be an obstacle or setback to improving fitness. Many people will gain more than 5 or more pounds when they take a week off. That could mean five weeks or more to take that weight off.
When planning a trip, consider activities that will get you moving, Take a scenic bike tour or a long swim in the pool or ocean. Try a new adventure like sea kayaking or hike in a national park. Find fun exercise alternatives like active games on the beach or sports like tennis that everyone can enjoy together.
While vacationing or traveling in cities, forgo taxis and walk. Plan regular morning and evening walks to spend quality time with companions and find interesting spots and sights that would otherwise be missed. 
Choose meal indulgences carefully.  Vacation does not mean eat anything and everything - have a piña colada at lunch, then skip dessert at dinner. Try the local fair and stick to successful nutritional choices of lean proteins, like local fish with fresh local fruits and vegetables. Eating outside will help you eat less. As opposed to being in air conditioning, dining al fresco can make you crave more liquids and less food.
 
Share meals to sample more of the local fair without over eating. It's tempting to eat everything on the plate while on vacation, since you can't take the leftovers home. Split an entrée with someone to save both money and calories.
 
Before the trip, find local fitness centers or hotels with fitness centers and use them! Try to stick to all your successful fitness habits and come through vacation more fit, leaner and more relaxed!

    There is a group on Holosfitness.com devoted to staying in shape while travelling for work. I have used the exercises on this website several times, because it helps me find an activity I can do without a gym or any equipment.
