Known as one of the biggest bass fisheries in the West, the California Delta welcomes the Bassmaster Elite qualifiers, while they search for the big bag of bass that will earn them $100 grand and top angler points in the first stop on the Elite trail to the next Bassmaster Classic.
By Wednesday afternoon there was hardly a Delta road traveled, an intersection crossed or a gas station pump that didn't have a parade of bass boats in, on or around it.
Fishing fans gathered to watch, snap photos and swap stories of which bass pro was on their fave fishing spot. The big guys haven't forgotten the fans and many took time to throw some pointers the way of the admiring anglers.
With barely a moment to retie tackle following the Bassmaster Classic in Alabama, 2010 Classic Champ, Kevin VanDam, local pro and 2009 Classic Champ, Skeet Reese, and the runaway winner on the Delta from the 2009 Stren Series, another local pro, Ish Monroe along with 90 other elite qualifiers will blast off from Webers Point Thursday and Friday.
Those lucky enough to make the half point cut will be in the 47 boats that resume fishing on Saturday. The top twelve will be takin' off Sunday for one last shot at puttin' 'em in the bag.
Weigh ins will be held at 3:30 pm at the Weber Points Event Center in Stockton.
The next stop on the Elite trail will be the Golden State Shootout on Clear Lake, kicking off March 18.

Yeah! I still can't believe it. I was just driving by the Hilton checking out all the boats, and caught him walking to his truck. It was awesome.
