Clear Lake's Redbud residents have become accustomed to an occasional bass fishermen launching from the multi-lane ramp located at the end of the park, but this week ramp traffic has roared with the many anglers pre fishing for the upcoming weekend.

Although this week's rise in ramp traffic was apparent, it pales in comparison, to the boost in boats that will run from Redbud at safelight this Saturday.

The howl of over 100 high-powered (and low-powered) bass boats will rip through the morning sunrise as anglers rocket their rigs into high-gear and blast off to try and grab a piece of the "stash of cash" available in the Thunder Valley Outdoors-Big Bass Brawl, the fifth event in the Future Pro Tour's 2010 season.

This may be a regular season stop but the Big Bass Brawl is anything but regular.

Enhancing the excitement, the Clear Lake tournament touts a unique twist. Featuring two weigh in periods, the elimination event will challenge anglers to make the cut to qualify for the second round.

Ending at 11:00 am, the first round of the Big Bass Brawl will see all contenders come to the scale. Kicking off at 2:00 pm, only 40 boats boasting the biggest bags of bass will compete in the second round.

With less pressure on the water and prime late evening hours, the top 40 teams will have a chance at claiming the hefty cash purse and a coveted FPT Open title.

As always, the FPT Friday pre registration expo will be available for anglers that desire to be better prepared for this elimination-style event. On hand to share knowledge and experience will be some of the top pros that fish Clear Lake almost exclusively, including;

  • Multi Pro-Am champion, Wayne Brazele
  • 13-time West Coast Bass Classic Qualifier and 2-time Classic Champ, Jerry "the Godfather" Tilton
  • FLW Champion, Mark Crutcher
  • Big fish hunter and local guide, Larry Hemphill

For fishermen finding it a tough task to fish through the heavy algae deposit or baiting the bass to bite in the summertime heat, don't miss Hemphill's tips and tricks on mastering the current conditions.

To assist anglers with their electronics, Len Vinci, of Johnson Outdoors will also be available. Vinci will divulge some very effective techniques for locating fish with Hummingbird's Side-Imaging on Clear Lake.

Friday's optional pre-reg period and seminars will be held at Clear Lake Bait and Tackle, promptly at 4:00 pm.

Saturday's schedule starts with the first round from 5:00 am - 11:00 am. Following that, from 11:00 - 2:00 pm, all FPT participants from Round 1 will be treated to a free, delicious BBQ courtesy of the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce, a big, big raffle, and free on-site demo rides in the new Ranger 520 series boat with Scott Green from Marine Unlimited.

This will be your chance to see, first hand, why Ranger Boats are still at the top of the pyramid in the bass boat business. For the 40 teams still in contention, the second round will run from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
