Four Delta growers have been accused of taking water they have no permission to use.
The landowners were ordered to stop use immediately and prove their water rights by California's State Water Resources Control Board.
Gallo Vineyards, Inc. originally founded by the late Ernest Gallo, who was commemorated by the State of California in 2007 with the approval of the resolution proposed by California State Senators Feinstein and Boxer, is the largest user of water being pumped on the two Delta islands.
Gallo's crops on Roberts and Union Islands are being irrigated with nearly 650 acre feet of delta water annually.
The combined water usage of the other crop owners listed as Yong Pak and Sun Young, Mussi Investment LP, and Mark and Valla Dunkel was estimated to be an additional 360 feet per acre.
Roberts Island is bordered by the San Joaquin River and is adjacent to Union Island. The islands are north east of the Tracy Pumping Plant.
