The first day of the 3rd Annual Berkley Big Bass blast off on the California Delta had anglers on the water before sunrise today. Launching at 4am fishermen had four hours to find fish and blaze back to the scales by 8am for the first of six hourly weigh ins.

Every angler brought their best in the boat to any time slot they preferred.

Back at the dock, from 9am – 1 pm, at the top of every hour, the clock stopped and the seven biggest bass boated on Berkley baits claimed cash from $500 to $50.
The Berkley Big Bass challenge to “Catch More Fish” was more than met when Russ Meyer’s monster made it on the scale for the 8am hour.

Following his recent Clear Lake win, Russ rode the rush, reeling in a record breaker for Berkley Big Bass. His 13.15 lb bass was confirmed to be the biggest bass brought in to a Berkley Challenge.

Russ racked up a Harley Davidson in a Clear Lake tournament in February. Finding his success slinging swimbaits, he was sent to the top spot that day and again today, as his big bass couldn't resist the Berkley Hollow Belly Swimbait.

Brian Carpenter wins the11am weigh in.

Needless to say, Russ had the best bass of his weigh in at the 8am hour taking the first seat and the $500.

The FLW Angler of the Year in the National Guard Division, Zack Thompson found a four plus that earned him a first at the 9 am cut off.
The 11am weigh in was won by Dan Carpenter when he heaved a 9.47 to the scales.  His bait of choice for this big bass was a 4 inch Crazy Leg Chigger Craw with the head torn off.
In addition to the top spot prize payout, all fishermen finishing first in every hour will receive a key that could fit the new 2010 Toyota Tundra.
For Day 1, each hour was won with a varied weight, even as low as 4.86 at the final weigh in.
Over the course of the two day event 12 anglers will win a key, but only one will have the key that turns in the Toyota Truck.

Tune in tomorrow for final results and to hear who hops in the truck and heads home.

Berkley Hourly Winner Board- Each Angler earns $500 & a Key to try the Tundra.

The Berkley Big Bass Challenge is presented by Anglers Press, a business that “Communicates the Business of Angling”.
