3 years ago today, Lady Bird Johnson, First Lady of the United States from 1963 to 1969 during the presidency of her husband, Lyndon B. Johnson, passed away at the age of 94. Throughout her life, Claudia Alta "Lady Bird" Taylor Johnson was an advocate for the beauty found in nature. During her time in the White House, she worked with the American Association of Nurserymen to protect wildflowers and the planting of these flowers alongside highways, promoting the Highway Beautification Act, nicknamed “Lady Bird’s Bill.”

Coming into the title of first lady after the death of JFK in 1963 was hard on Lady Bird. Not only was her husband following a president known for his great charismatic ways with the Americans, but she came into the footsteps of Jackie Kennedy, a woman celebrated for her devotion to fashion and 17 years her junior. Although, Lady Bird never received high regards for her fashion, she had an elegantly chic style. She brought her ability of seeing beauty in the unexpected, such as nature, into her fashion choices. Lady Bird could take simple garments and make them look fabulous. She usually kept her looks slightly casual and comfortable, cinched at the waist on her hourglass figure, but always classy and chic.

Lady Bird Johnson moved mountains for the fashion industry, not by always wearing the latest name brand designer, but rather, by demonstrating to the designers that beauty can be found in the rarest of all places. Take a look at Lady Bird’s life in style in the slideshow below. Do you like Lady Bird Johnson’s fashion choices?

I love Lady Bird and everything that she has done! She was a woman who fought for beauty and showed others that beauty can be found in the most rare of all places. I especially love the outfits she wore with the beautiful colors of nature on them; she was a woman of true color!!
