The Mayor of Mobile is at it again with his ideas about cutting the budget and he wants to cut all city employees at least 5% and possibly up to 15%. Tuesday March 30, 2010 at the city council meeting this potential pay cut was the topic of discussion.

The meeting started at 10:30 Tuesday morning and hundreds of fire department, police department, sanitation workers, mechanics, sectaries, and many other employees from every department of the city were represented at the city council meeting.

Hundreds of employees and their family members showed up for this meeting that every seat was filled and the fire marshal would not allow any other people to enter into where the meeting was held.
There was over two hundred people that had to stay on the outside of the meeting room and stand in the atrium to watch the meeting on four twenty inch TV screens to try to hear and see what was being said and done during the meeting.

The Mayor has already convinced his council members to pass amendments to change overtime pay procedures and how overtime is to be paid. The Mayor has also convinced council members to increase insurance premiums, deductibles and co-pays. This was done to help the budget. Now the Mayor wants the council members to vote yes on employees to take a 5% - 15% pay cut.

Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. the local 1349 union members had a special union meeting to discuss the council meeting held Tuesday morning concerning the possible 5% - 15% pay cut. There will be another special meeting held at the 1349 union members building at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday to give firefighters that was on duty Tuesday a chance to voice their opinions and concerns.
