At 2:34 p.m. on July 18, 2010, the Carlyss Fire Department, along with Acadian Ambulance, was dispatched to Interstate 10 East Bound at Mile Marker 17-18 for a vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler and an extended cab truck. CF 61, the fire department rescue unit, responded from Station One with Firefighter/ Operator Brandon Walker and Captain James E. Stanley. Crews arrived on the scene to find a Titan double cab truck sitting upright in the median with extensive damage to the front and rear of the truck. The 18-wheeler was sitting in the center lane of the interstate with moderate damage to the front. Acadian Ambulance Unit 406 with EMT-Paramedic Jody Parker and EMT-Basic Harold Fulmer were tending to occupants.
The Titan truck sits where it came to rest in the median.
The driver of the Titan truck was stalled in the middle of the interstate after being struck by an 18 wheeler. When the female driver got out of her vehicle, she noticed another 18-wheeler approaching from behind. The driver instructed her daughter to get out of the truck and run to the median. The Titan truck was struck from behind as the driver was trying to get away from the vehicle. The driver, along with her vehicle, were thrown in to the median.
