Elle Schorr's photographs reflect the dualities that bombard us

Credits:

Elle Schorr explores art, nature, people and places in her photographs, but perhaps she is most profound in her body of work that she calls “reflections.” Her photos look like collages or photo montages, but in fact they are single digital photographic images. “All explore the dualities, the multiple and often incongruous impressions that bombard us, ever changing and in transition, a mix of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.”

The artist has made a major impression in Palm Beach County since she moved here from New York ten years ago. Though she loved photography, up north her attention was more focused on her work as a therapist in a child and adolescent psychiatric hospital program. When she retired and moved to Florida, she decided to give her full attention to her artwork. Since then her photographs have been exhibited in numerous shows around the County, and she has been an active member in Artists of Palm Beach County, co-chairing the Communication and Marketing Committee as a member of the Board of Directors.

The past few months she has been in one exhibit after another including the 58th Annual All Florida Competition and Exhibition at the Boca Museum of Art, which took place June 10 – August 30, 2009, and Women in the Visual Art’s Artistic Visions: On, Over, Off the Edge of our World and Vanishing Florida, both exhibits held at the Armory Art Center October 9 – October 29, 2009.  Vanishing Florida is a traveling, group photography exhibit which is currently at Northern Trust Bank in North Palm Beach and will be in different locations throughout the year, ending January 2011 In the South Palm Beach Town Hall.

Saturday, November 28th is the last day to see her work in Visual Conceits: Fantasy or Reality? at the Armory, but her photograph in the Palm Beach Photographic Centre 13th Annual Infocus Juried Exhibition will be on display until January 3, 2010. Prestigious jurists juried both exhibitions. Award winning Anna Tomczak, who was featured in earlier Fine Arts Examiner articles, was the jurist for the Photographic Centre; Bernice Steinbaum, Founder and President of Miami Art Exchange and Gallery Director of Bernice Steinbaum Gallery (Soho, NY City, and Miami) juried Visual Conceits.

While the Armory show ends on Saturday, that day Elle will be delivering photos to the Liman Gallery. Artist owner Ellen Liman was so impressed by Elle’s work when she saw the “Soho Seen” series in the Armory show, she invited the photographer to exhibit in the Palm Beach gallery. Located at 139 N. County Road in the historic Paramount Building, Liman Gallery hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and by appointment 561-659-7050. Definitely make it a point to see Elle’s extraordinary photographs, and for now take a look at the slideshow of her work below.
