VIVIAN GIRLS, 6pm KEXP Broad Street Stage
This underground all girl American rock band from Brooklyn, formed only in 2007 had a hard time singing their melodic, indie, folksy music against almost gale force winds. Seriously, as I walked there tents flew off around me and the drizzle gave way to real rain. Still they persevered and so did the seizable audience.
ROY AYERS, 7.30pm, Fisher Green Stage
Born in 1940 in LA this amazingly talented funk, soul and jazz composer has a resume to boast an unbelievable music career. His trademark vibraphone gave way to drumming on the stage floor which drove the delighted audience into a singing/screaming frenzy. A very tight, fun performance with a stellar band and many different instruments. With songs like 'Red/Blue and Green' and 'Daddy's Back' he vowed his progressive R&B style.
RAPHAEL SAADIQ, 9pm, Fisher Green Stage (pictured above)
Gladly missed the mainstage performances as it seemed that the offerings at Fisher Green were far more sophisticated and fabulous as easily proven by this music legend who has been nominated for 3 Grammy's for his many masterpieces in his wide spanning and long music career (born in 67).
It had the sound and flavour of 60's Soul with some feel-good rhythm and blues thrown in at exactly the right times.
The huge audience appreciated the funky, fast show with a very experienced band and great flair to close off the evening.
