Bumbershoot Monday - Delhi 2 Dublin and the Black Eyed Peas

Delhi 2 Dublin were quite a hit and have a great future. There I said it. Their mix of Bhangra, hip hop and Celtic fiddle music was the perfect antidote to the humdrum mood of a gray day. Their lead singer, a young Indian had sufficient personality to keep the crowd animated, and behind him was a diminutive yet dynamite young lass of a fiddle player. Backing them up was a guitarist who dabbled succesfully in a sitar, and a man who banged an enormous drum the name of which escapes me, except that you see it plent in bhangra bands.

Program notes were not too informative so we're going to circle back to you and find out a little more about them and supply some pictures.

Two years ago Fergie played at the Memorial Stadium part of the Seattle Centre at Bumbershoot, as a closing act, and it was frankly dreadful. Black Eyed Peas, two years on, and the outcome was very very different. In the middle of a rainy afternoon, with the weather indecisevely spitting, they illuminated a crowd far more mixed in age than could have been predicted. They gave the set their full energy and evenm the gimmick of transformery robots with bright green colouring wasn't too annoying. The crowd, very large in number lapped it up, and they filled Memorial in a way that Sheryl Crowe didn't.

Cobu and Israeli born Berliner Oren Lavie up next.
