Even despite the weather, we have generally resisted the temptation to stray indoors, except of course to type the bulletins. One exception we did make was to see Cobu, which can best be described as Samurai meets Fred Astaire meets Stomp. In fact, Stomp's founder Yako Miyamoto directed this innovative show, where six extraordinarily cute and diminutive young girls, drummed, danced and occasionally shrieked their way aesthetically across Seattle Rep's Bagley Wright stage.
This was Cobu's West Coast premiere, presented as part of Bumbershoot's Arts Integration Project. The house was pretty packed so it may well be that news of this skillful and sexy act will spread incrementally up and down the coast. No photography was around inside but above you can see a publicity photo as it can better explain the sheer visual explosion that this hugely enjoyable act unleashed on the stage.
If you see them back in town, buy a ticket. Their uniqueness and their energy will leave you feeling well entertained.
