If you think you have seen all the arts have to offer in San Diego, you haven’t seen anything yet. New events this month will give you a chance to see art and design in a whole new light.
This Saturday, November 7, the California Art Club will premiere “Julian and the San Diego Back Country.” This unique exhibition pays tribute to the natural beauty of the Julian area in the autumn and harvest seasons. Many of the featured artists are from the San Diego and Orange County Chapters of the California Art Club. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to capture on canvas images of life in Julian and surrounding countryside, continuing the Club's tradition of memorializing California's rich history in works of art that will be viewed by generations to come,” said artist Peter Adams, President of CAC. The program remains open until November 29 at The Julian Art Gallery, located at 2229 Main St in Julian.
The San Diego based Design Innovation Institute will present “TRANSITions – High Speed Transit Forum” at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 12 . The event will take place at Point Loma Nazarene University’s Brown Chapel. The discussion will highlight design innovation and its
impact on new high speed rail projects and “magnetic levitation” surface transit systems. These are expected to be some of the most visible public building projects in the next decade and could have the same kind of influence on California’s architectural heritage as landmarks like the San Diego Santa Fe Depot and the Hotel Del Coronado.
Starting November 12, you can see artist-in-residence Susan Hauptman and her work at the Lux Art Institute in Encinitas. The New York artist specializes in charcoal and pastel drawings. Hauptman will work in the Lux Studios through November 22, where the public can observe her creative style each Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
For the first time, the San Diego Art Institute is hosting a joint exhibition with the San Diego Art Department and the Combined Organizations for the Visual Arts. Appropriately named “Collaboration” the special exhibition will open with a reception on November 13 at 6 p.m. and continue through November 22. It will be located at the exhibition space of the San Diego Art Institute on the Prado in Balboa Park.
The San Diego Museum of Natural History invites you to view art from the perspective of “survival of the fittest.” To accompany its new Darwin Exhibition, opening November 7, the Museum will host the special event “Art Inspired by Darwin” on Tuesday, November 17 at 6:30. The program will include both nature photography and music inspired by the research and theories of Charles Darwin.
