Just in time for fashion week, Susan Olmetti has produced a collection of wearable art that exudes her whimsical signature style of painting and embroidery. Included in her repertoire are blazers, cloaks, dresses, jewelry, pants, and hats.
Some of her works have minimal embroidery, while others are fully painted. Her stitching style is jerky and jagged, reminiscent of a heart monitor or eccentric line graph with ups and downs like the stock market. And her painting style can be a drip technique as well as fully atmospheric colorings, similar to her paintings. Olmetti's markings can sometimes look like handwriting that is written in her own language.
She mostly uses one color stitching, such as gold, white, and red. But her wearable art paintings are usually done with many colors. One of her more elaborate works incorporates japanese wrapping scarves. She also does her handy work on fashions by other designers like Lanvin, Huntsman, and Sartoria Menchetti.
"I always find an audience in the wee hours of night while creating to the tunes of hot jazz. I am always in the mood for dancing with a paint brush in one hand and a needle and thread in the other." Olmetti gives a touch of performance with her art and fashion.
