Trek up to Harlem October 10 and 11 to check out local artists and their work. ArtHarlem’s Hoast 2009 The 5th Annual Open Artists Studio Tour offers something for everybody – paintings, photographs, quilts, and more. Last year over 2,000 visitors attended the event which included tours, exhibitions, and artist talks. This year over 60 artists will participate, located in loft-spaces, storefronts, galleries, and apartments.
This year’s roster includes a number of interesting artists with unique dialogs. Evi Abeler’s photographs portray moody and sometimes lonely environments. Louise Brooks’ colorful and lush abstract paintings push the subdued. Amy Chaiklin’s whimsical paintings prance around, sex and the city style. Allicette Torres’ photographs capture innocent and sometimes clashing moments of feminism and gentrification. Christina Stahr’s obtrusive, gold leaf and denim on paper collages, trip the light fantastic. Dindga McCannon’s quilts weave in a good way, everything but the kitchen sink: copper, beads, crystals, and photos.
The opening reception for HOAST 2009 is at the Casa Frela Gallery on Friday October 9 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. HOAST 2009 takes place Saturday, October 10 from 12 Noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday, October 11 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event is free to the public.

Sounds great. Thanks for posting this!
I saw paintings by Eric Alugas at his studio. Wonderful scenes of Harlem and other stuff. Can't wait to get back to the city and see more.
