Amanda Abel as Judy. Alex Egan as Frank Nelson.
Imagine falling into a twilight world of four brilliant, eccentric writers, Tennessee Williams, Quentin Crisp, Truman Capote, and Oscar Wilde, waxing and slurring their quirky views of things. They like liquor, check. They like boys, check. They are highly vocal, check. Not so strange for a dream, right? Then you realize this is real, and like them, you are dead!
Thanks to the great philosophizing of these committed opinion-givers, they have decided that you harbored other secrets that you weren’t willing or able to admit to yourself. To atone for your sins you are encased with the most fascinating and ornery crew assembled in one place for eternity? There is a way out, but one must find it on his own.
To add to the insanity visits to the limbo loft occur. Amanda Abel as a meek Alice Toklas, then as a boisterous Bette Davis and jumpy Judy Garland tickle the fantasy bone just enough for a whole lot of head scratching and giggles. Alex Egan is a masterful Gertrude Stein, towering over Alice Toklas and calling the shots. As William Shakespeare, he is a hoot, and his Frank Nelson is fantastic.
With director John Pabros-Clark at the helm of this astounding Jeffrey Hartgraves-penned production, never has a cast been so masterfully rendered. Veteran, Leon Acord captures the nuances of eccentric Quentin Crisp. Curt Bonnem is an amazing Tennesse Williams with his southern charm and naughty wit. Jesse Merlin as the sophisticate, Oscar Wilde adds just the right degree of counter-point to Kevin Remington’s dead-on Truman Capote, the most raucous of the men. Levi Damione is the boy wonder, Gryphon Tott, falling into the presence of genius before he can realize his own in life.
