The geode; rough and raw on the outside, yet hidden inside are pure and clear crystals. And that is Geode Gallery, a new gem located in the midst of gritty Cleveland's resurgent Tremont neighborhood.
The walls are a refreshing white and the wood floors are polished, but the exposed ductwork reminds you that this is an old neighborhood. All tables and displays are refurbished from local antique stores from nearby Lorain Road.
Unlike other galleries which stuff as many items on a shelf as possible, Geode has a nice, relaxed flow. It's easy to coast from one display to the next. You never feel cramped or have to maneuver awkwardly throughout the space.
Gillian Barnes, chief proprietor of Geode Gallery, has maintained a consistent look throughout. Even though the work on display come from many local and national artisans in any number of mediums, a high level of quality permeates through the establishment. Plus the work here is one of a kind making Geode far from a stale, cookie cutter chain. Here is a place for unique gifts, rather than mass appeal.
Geode is located at the up and coming intersection of Professor and Starkweather. A couple doors down is Lily Handmade Chocolates and Lucky's Cafe whose walls display the work of local artists. You also can't miss the beautiful spires of St. Theodosius Russian Orthodox Cathedral, best known for it's appearance in the 1977 film, The Deer Hunter.
Geode, open since April 3rd, is a fresh, new addition to the neighborhood. It's a diverse destination featuring paintings, ceramics, jewelry and everything in between. A new outdoor patio is in the works designed by local craftsmen so stop in soon.
