For most retailers, the holiday shopping season determines whether or not they will have a successful year.  With the economy not at its peak, retailers began soliciting us much earlier this year.  And, if you were watching, there were some great deals to be found.

Tomorrow, when you open up your newspaper, you will see a plethora of advertisements for hot deals mostly between 4-10 in the morning.  There are a few things you should consider before putting on your parka and pulling out the sleeping bag to sit in line for a new television.  First, just because something is advertised as being a great deal on black Friday, it is not always the case.  Do a little research.  You probably would not buy a $500 television without looking into the brand and model on a normal day, even for a special occasion so why should you jump to buy one because it is on sale at 4:30am?  If you have too much football to watch, and don't have the time to see what deals are really the best, look at the fine print and see what the return policy is, which gives you the option to do your research later.

Read the fine print.  Some of these deals come with a caveat of disclaimers.  There might only be a certain amount for sale that morning.  You might need to use a specific credit card to get the listed price.  And, on some rare occasions the products might have a slight defect that allows the store to make a deal with the manufacturer to sell it to you so much cheaper.  Be sure you can accept the item as is.

And, as you head off to do you holiday shopping hours before dawn remember that you are buying something for someone special in your life so make the best of the crowds and chaos and try and spread some holiday cheer!
