One of Tucson’s hidden gems, The Screening Room, in conjunction with David Pike and The Arizona Underground Film Festival and Features Selection program, have announced an impressive February slate of films. Remember also to check back as each film will be previewed here prior to its screening. The Screening Room is a wonderful spot to catch a flick in Downtown Tucson and the upcoming selection of films are sure to please a wide variety of film tastes.
Starting things off on February 5th at 8:00 pm will be Herschell Gordon Lewis' 1973 grindhouse cult classic The Gore Gore Girls. The film follows the story of a group of strippers at a sleazy club that are being mutilated at an alarming rate. A reporter enlists the aid of a local detective to solve the case and land her a front-page story. This is grindhouse in its golden era and those who attend this screening are going to be in for a real treat.
Feb. 12th will have an encore screening of Modern Love is Automatic, which was one of the best films to screen at The Arizona Underground Film Festival last year. The film follows the story of a nurse who moonlights as a dominatrix and the ensuing search for herself and her way through the modern world. This film won the Best Narrative Feature Award at the AUFF and was very deserving as star Melodie Sisk really burns up the screen with an inspired performance. The month of screenings wraps up February 26th with Four Roses, which is touted by the film’s website, “a provocative, black and white drama exploring themes of isolation, love, and being”. This really looks to be a great film that Tucsonans are fortunate to have screening here in town. Written and directed by Kris De Meester and starring Brad Moore, Aldevina Da Silva, John Samaha, Felipe Mafasoli, and Shai Shahar, Four Roses is certainly a film this space will not miss.
