The San Francisco CORO Youth Fellows presented a bilingual multimedia show August 12 at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts on the DREAM Act: Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors. The presentation included personal testimonies by students on stage and on film and an informative multimedia game show probing aspects of DREAM.This bill introduced to Congress in 2001 and reintroduced March 26, 2009 will help immigrant high school students who have been in the US since they were children complete their education rather than be deported. If passed eligble students who have resided in the US for more than five years and arrived in the US under the age of 16, have graduated from a US high school and demonstrate good moral character will be able to acquire permanent residency by completing an Associates Degree or enrolling in the US miliary for two years.
The San Francisco CORO Youth Fellows have gathered more than 40 testimonies and 300 petition signatures to be presented on September 11th to Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, whose home district is San Francisco. Written testimonials in support of the DREAM Act can be sent to San Francisco CORO Youth Fellows through September 5th.
Each of the eighteen San Francisco Youth Fellows come from diverse multicultural backgrounds and embody the future of America with scholarship, leadership, creativity, passion and committment.
