A fact, mysteriously since the 1960s, a disproportionate number of the population in Alaska has been reported missing every year. Despite multiple FBI investigations of the region, the truth has never been discovered.
Another fact, in this remote region, psychologist Dr. Abigail Tyler began videotaping sessions with traumatized patients and unwittingly discovered some of the most disturbing evidence of alien abduction ever documented.
There are the basic steps that were presented on UFO’s by Dr. J. Allen Hynek with the Center For UFO’s in the 1970’s where a scale of measurement was established for alien encounters. Relating to humans and contact with life from other worlds, Dr. Hynek presented this line of thought. A close encounter of the first kind would be “sighting”; a close encounter of the second kind, “evidence”; a close encounter of the third kind is “contact” (director Steven Spielberg highlighted this aspect with his hit, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” in 1977); and a close encounter of the fourth kind is, “Abduction”.
“The Fourth Kind” presents the terrified revelations of multiple witnesses using the actual videotapes of psychologist Abigail Tyler’s patients (recorded with time code stamps in 2000), and of Dr. Abigail who states her young daughter at that time, was also abducted and never found to this day. Their accounts of being visited by alien figures all share disturbingly identical details, the validity of which is investigated throughout the film.
If awards can be given for exceptional production style and technique, writer/director Olatunde Osunsanmi would get my highest for the presentation of the actual footage of the patient sessions, the real Dr. Tyler’s footage, and police stake out videos. He also used actors portraying the actual persons in the videos to bridge the time frames of the events, split screens with the actual video (with time code visible) and recreated footage shot. The presentation style gave one viewing, the feeling of being another camera, documenting the facts as they occurred. This writer used the same technique with the opening paragraph to this review to add the air of urgency with the word "fact". Nice technique…
Starring as Dr. Abigail Tyler in “The Fourth Kind” is my favorite action actress Milla Jovovich. She’s the star of the highly successful “Resident Evil” film series. “Resident Evil: Afterlife”, the fourth film in the series, is due in 2010!
Starring Milla Jovovich, Will Patton, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Corey Johnson, and Elias Koteas.
Written and directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi. Universal Pictures release. Rated PG-13 for violent/disturbing images, some terror, thematic elements and brief sexuality. Runtime: 98 minutes.

Just saw this today and I don't know what's going on in Nome - aliens or serial killers or cabin fever - but I'm not going to be visiting that town for a long, long while. I hate to fly too, so it should not be too hard. Good flick though...
My dad saw UFO's outside of Payson, AZ several years ago. I have seen strange lights driving between Globe and Payson and between Phoenix and Payson. I have not seen anything strange here in Havasu, except for the drivers!!!

i don't beleive for a min that abducted people feel as portayed int his film. what this movie really shows and tells is about the goverment and military abuse of people with back technology. star visitors are not here to do harm to human, never!, it's just about the powerful ones doig this to the weak and poor ones.
This movie is a must see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is the scariest thing I've ever seen!
I have to say that its extremely plausible, the actual footage or the sessions, the dark disc like craft hovering above the house on a live police cam...truly surreal. Then I think back on the Phoenix Lights incident and the crafts are remarkedably familiar. I could not sleep last night thinking about it but you make up your minds, its a must see either way...its a MASTERPIECE!
I said it once, and I will say it again:
MILABS-MILABS-MILABS (Military [covert] Abduction)
Its your own people with holographic technology. Those humans look really 'alien' after a dose of LSD kicks in too on top of it. Yea...we know your drugging people too big-brother; they remember your UN/Corporate abusers at work, a some remember when you turned of the technology and showed your crooked henchmen.
'Aliens' per se, have been here thousands of years and the accounts are widespread through all colors of people;Only after 1947 did this 'Abusive' abduction thing really kick under way (WONDER WHY???).
I have studied abductions for many years, talking with the people who have had them, and many of the finest researches of the day, and I have had my own experiences. I dont think this is a typical scenario. After all, its simply hollywood. Each person would seem to have an experience that is personal to them. There is no typical abduction. The phenomenon itself is not surprising if you have done you homework on this, but, what I am more concerned about here is the portrayal of "evil ETs". This is the dominant theme in ufo, aduction movies. What is it we are being conditioned for? Anyone seen the V program on TV? It is not a new program, but has been dug up and re done. Why now? It also has the evil alien theme. What are we going to think when ET makes a mass showing .? If you are as conditioned as you are, you will simply fall in line like everyone else and agree that "they" are evil. This is just a movie but it also has creeped into your consciousness, hasnt it? THINK, YOURELF
TRUST NO ONE........INCLUDING MUFON
Saw the movie today and loved it. I truly was scared and jumped in my seat a couple of times (my rating for how "scary" a film is.)
I have followed the "alien abduction" reports for a number of years and this film had the ring of credibility. Even if you don't believe the film is based on real facts, it deserves awards for excellent research, writing, filming, and acting. BTW, this film is so much better than "Paranormal Activity". I almost slept through "Paranormal Activity". The film was terrible!
Great article, Stan. Welcome to the Examiner Team! You're the best.

Regardless of how you feel about UFOs or abductions, this movie was simply a work of fiction. Do a little research, people. Go to the Anchorage Daily News and read their article. This movie was not filmed in Nome, and Nome does not have trees as they appear in the film. The scene of the object over the house has trees in it that do not exist in Anchorage.
There is nothing wrong with enjoying a movie, and the UFO phenomenon certainly bears examination. But this is just a movie, and not a very good one at that.
I got to say it was stood movie but whether you think it was a fake or not, it brings up a subject some people may ask themselves all the time,"are there other life forms in the galaxy than us, an why would they be so interested in us humans?" Then you can see that even before God many say they existed. Its just one of ode movies that make you wonder and do your research and decide for your self whether you believe thereafter other lifeforms in this galaxy than just us. Are we truely alone.??
You have all brought up good points. Regardless of your opinions of the factual data behind the movie, the movie does bring up a good point that does scare some people who believe humans to be on top of the food chain. We're animals just like any other on this planet. I can see denying other intelligent lifeforms in the 1950's or 60's, but with the technology we have today and how far we've looked into space. Technology has proven that we are one solar system in our galaxy & our galaxy is one galaxy in the entire universe which is massive....to think we are alone as intelligent life is just naive in this day and age. Even if it's not aliens it could be non-terrestrial intelligence from the depths of our oceans or whatnot. I have to believe that there is intelligent life out there, and i have to believe they are not all "evil". Intelligent life of our standards of intelligence would be similar to us. Therefore there would be the "GOOD" one's that are nice, and the "EVIL" ones that are bad, same as humans. All intelligent life forms have the mental capacity to choose if they do good or bad things. People tend to panic when they sense a loss of "control". I have never had any encounters of any kind other than weird experiences when I was a kid...but who knows, if it was an "alien" which I highly doubt, they could have been protecting or observing instead of jumping to conclusions leading to panic. If I ever encountered a non-human life form I'd hope it was a "good" life form. I'd be scared, especially if it was technologically superior, but also curious. If they didn't harm me I would be cool and try to communicate, hang out, and have fun! ...and I certainly wouldn't tell anyone about it as your credibility for life would be ruined in today's society. Speaking of our society...lol i could go on and on about why an abduction would occur based on what they see some humans do to this day through observation. If I encountered a "bad" non-human intelligent life form that actually caused me mental or physical harm...I'd probably be permanently scarred as Dr. Abigail was in this great flick. "I cannot believe that we are alone as intelligent life forms in the universe." Regardless of if they are earth based non-terrestrial intelligent life forms or aliens or whatever, every INTELLIGENT life form knows the difference in between behavior of acting to "harm" and to "nurture" or protect. Think about that next time you see scientists do tests on our earthly brothers, our animals who give us our trust and the trust is betrayed in the name of experimentation... all intelligent beings have a choice to become good or evil. To give trust and open themselves to the possibility of betrayal or proven trust & brotherhood, or on the other "bad" side, to abduct and exploit, harm, or injure....as many "bad" humans have done to other species or other humans on a day to day basis. Contrary to popular belief, humans are not the only species to show compassion and offer protection to other species on this planet outside the human species or rather it's "own" species/kind. Do your research on human children being rescued in the wild from being eaten... rare, but it has happened...and these are "not-so-intelligent" animals. If I were encountered by an intelligent being that was aggressive, and has made the choice to be "bad" or evil"....well you can think of yourself as a lab rat...but also not all of them can be evil....on the other hand ....well you can I would think of it this way guys... I love my dog, I would do anything for him. I know he is not as smart as me but I love him and although he is old I would still take a bullet for him & protect him at all costs. I would give my own life for my dog.. even though he does not live long, even though he is less intelligent than me, because I am loyal to him as he has shown loyalty to me. I love him. This is uncommon among humans...and if there is a "higher intelligence" i'm sure it is also uncommon among them, but with intelligence comes the capability to bond and care and love. I believe there is other life out there in the universe and beyond that is intelligent although I can not, and would not prove it especially if it was from a "higher-intelligence". That in itself is scary. I think this movie was great, but it was an example of "bad" ET's. I can believe in intelligent life outside the human race, however I cannot believe that they are ALL bad. Although just like humans, I'm sure if ET's or NTI's do exist I'm sure if they are intelligent, they have the same capabilities as we do....with the same general moral choices as we do. Good & Evil, that is not just a human choice. Any intelligent being that exists can override instinct. Our planet was formed from a dog eat dog, fish eat fish, bug eat bug world....dating back to the dinosaurs and the survival instincts we see on animal planet everyday :). This is what separates humans and the few other species on planet earth apart from the rest. If there is a "higher-intelligence" they have a choice too. As do we... and think about what we do to some "lower-intelligent" type species considered inferior to our own. Test and observe....which is why situations such as presented in this movie do not strike me as highly unlikely.. however the thing that bothers me the most about this movie is THIS. The disappearance of the little girl who was blind in Alaska. A little girl could freeze to death in Alaska in a few hours... I mean for real....that makes me ANGRY. The movie director/producer left out the ACTUAL FACTS found as far as the husbands death/murder/suicide whatever...very vague. Also, they never mentioned the known medical cause of the little girl going blind when her father died. THOSE ARE SOME IMPORTANT DETAILS, unless ur just making a scary movie and not something based on a true story.... Then when the little girl disappeared, they played the police video that got distorted that was supposed to be "real". CAN THAT BE CONFIRMED? If that was not real the whole movie and entire "alien" aspect does not come down to "What do you believe?" as they say at the end, it comes down to the SIMPLE fact of "Do you believe in mental illness?". I don't care to research if the videos were real, except for that one. My grandfather went blind in his midlife for apparently no good reason but they still had a diagnosis...and a little girl, blind in freezing Alaska, that is not cool. A little blind girl would have an hour or two tops to survive.... but just like any "alien" encounter that has been reported, it leaves the stank smell of possible mental instability... but wouldnt u think the frozen remains would be found? I for one want to know what happened to that poor little girl if it is true, although Abigail Taylor is the only real name in the movie. I think all-in-all the movie was GREAT! ...but it lead me to one conclusion.... "MEAN ALIENS SUCK!" hehe Mila Jovavich has been my favorite actress since I saw her in 1999 in Fifth Element and later in high times magazine hehe :)....so if u encounter an alien...i'd recommend being polite and saying "Hey Mr. Alien dude, lets do a fly by on a REAL crop field, use that tractor beam of yours to pull the crops in and get lit together!" (even though I dont smoke em' these days i would.... under the circumstances hehe i would) then of course I'd roll up a spliff have fun! hehe of course I'd probably wake up like "whoaa...what a dream!" :) LOL! ALL IN ALL, I'd say, be nice to nice aliens and non-terrestrial intelligent beings and if you encounter a mean one... RUN!! haha :)... and if you're a paranoid schizo out there thinking aliens are after u I'd suggest getting some bully-breed earthbound animals... and become friends with them..which takes years... if they are loyal they will protect you... because from what i heard from people who "have" had encounters, the mean aliens i have been told are short little guys :). It comes down to one principal.... which is fairly simple. "Treat others how you want to be treated" :) Hope this helps!
